Ice in Amsterdam (Ben's Photos)
That was at the beginning of the week. By the end of the week, it had disappeared. But Ben had managed 2 free tickets to the World Championship skating being held at the outdoor ex-Olympic skating rink.
We drove down just after lunch, having first checked that the ice had also disappeared at Heerenveen - leaving the boat free for its first outing.
We walked! 7.5 km, visiting The Cottage for coffee and a shared scone - with pumpkin, orange and cardamon jam, the Ij Brewery (Ginger Ale for me!) and the Tropen Museum.

A visitor to the street market...
The building itself is very impressive
The items on display were basically about "diversity of people" and included some interesting history of the Dutch in Indonesia.
and earlier in the week back in Wijnjewoude...

The ice begins to thaw...

Food Coach
One of our friends had a serious heart problem, requiring an operation. He was also overweight and had a Food Coach to help him trim down quite remarkably. With the Winter Sloth and Christmas Excess, I/we noticed that we had put on too many kilos.
So, 6 weeks later under the guidance of the Food Coach, we have both lost more than 5 kilos! Not enjoying the food regime much - the real wonder is that I was only 5 kilos overweight and not 20! (Judging by the amount of food I'm not eating, if that makes sense).
My Dicky Knee is not stopping me from walking, but it makes me realise just how much a brother-in-law is going through - two artificial knees at the age of 50!
A new Industrial Canal for Drachten
Some big commercial ships come into Drachten and it is now proposed to make a more direct route. 6 farms will have to be acquired - about 400 hectares. This is part of a program looking at all Friesland (inland) havens towards 2050.
And more on Ben...
He is now down to the last 48! (from 2000) - in selection for the Road Trip Project
He had to make a video (below). If he gets to the last 16, then they all go to Brussels for some last selection process to get to the Final Eight.
